Cavan Monaghan Connects supports Winter Wellness

The Winter Wellness initiative features an accessible mix of activities

Cavan Monaghan Connects in partnership with HSE Cavan Monaghan, and Cavan and Monaghan County Councils have come together to create a schedule of creative events and activities to help us get off to a good start in the new year.

A wide-ranging programme of arts and cultural experiences will take place across Cavan and Monaghan from 6th to 20th January, aimed at supporting mental health and wellbeing through creativity, connection and community participation.

The Winter Wellness initiative features an accessible mix of activities including hand drumming workshops, creative upcycling sessions, tai chi and guided walking programmes, and live musical performances by local artists, all designed to encourage self-expression and positive wellbeing.

Emer Mulligan, HSE Connecting for Life Cavan Monaghan highlighted that “January can be a difficult time for many after the busyness of the festive season. It’s important that people find ways to recharge their batteries and spend time doing things they enjoy. Attending or taking part in a creative, artistic or cultural event locally is one way that can help while also supporting community connection”.

Kevin Curran, Recovery College Co-ordinator with HSE Cavan Monaghan Mental Health Service added that “a core aim of this initiative is to show that mental health awareness is everyone’s concern and that there is a growing community using the creative arts as a way of supporting people through their emotional challenges and journey of recovery, which can be part of our normal life experiences.”

“The schedule of events highlights some of the good things we all enjoy in life. From listening to live music performances, seeing street art in action to joining in a creative workshop or taking an active role in supporting our well-being; it’s all about how we can bring hope and connection into our lives.”

Sharon Howe, Creative Cavan Co-ordinator is very pleased to be involved in this partnership initiative and highlighted “the power of the arts and the importance of social engagement and creativity on health and wellbeing”.

Audrey Wilson, Creative Communities Monaghan Engagement Officer indicated that “the schedule has something for everyone to help them though the dark days of January, with the Festival culminating in a special Light Show at Monaghan Peace Campus on 19th January from 5 pm”.

A special thanks to all the organisations, groups and individuals who are contributing to this Winter Wellness initiative across Cavan and Monaghan.
