Monaghan pick up second win in McKenna Cup

Breaking

Monaghan 1-17

Fermanagh 3-8

Micheál Bannigan was the catalyst as Monaghan overturned a five-point deficit to see off Fermanagh in Castleblayney in this McKenna Cup clash. Introduced with his side under pressure on 38 minutes, the captain struck Monaghan’s first two-pointer of the year inside minutes and went on to amass a decisive 0-8.

Fermanagh seized control through first-half goals from Josh Largo-Ellis and Shane McGullion, moving six clear, while Monaghan’s major came from Darragh McElearney after the break.

Justin McDade’s late goal brought the Ernemen back within two, but Bannigan’s influence in the closing stages settled the contest and sent Monaghan through as section winners.
