Calls for speed survey in Killeshandra
THE issue of speeding vehicles on the approach road from Belturbet to Killeshandra has been highlighted to councillors in the Cavan-Belturbet Municipal District.
Fianna Fáil councillor Áine Smith raised the issue after residents from the Lake View housing estate in Killeshandra contacted her with their concerns over speeding.
“As you are coming from the Lake View there is a very bad bend on the approach road to Killeshandra and many of the local residents have been in contact with me regarding the danger associated with speeding, which, seems to be taking place regularly,” Cllr Smith told the Celt.
The councillor said she asked the senior engineer to carry out a speed survey on that stretch of the road “so that we can acquire the exact need for safety measures in this area in Killeshandra”.
Cllr Smith also spoke about the dangers of speeding around the corner in question.
“Local residents are very fearful that there will be an accident if this issue is not dealt with soon,” Cllr Smith said.
She secured an assurance from senior engineer for Cavan-Belturbet MD, Paul Mulligan, that a speed survey would be conducted and that the necessary safety measures would be in place to “help with this very serious matter of speeding in this area".
