Cavan team named for trip to Cork
Football news
Cavan manager Dermot McCabe has named his starting team and match-day panel for his first competitive game in charge, the trip to Cork this Sunday (1.30pm, Páirc Uí Chaoímh).
McCabe has named quite an experienced side, with the sextet of Jason McLoughlin, Ciaran Brady (Arva), Dara McVeety, Gerry Smith, and Gearoid McKiernan all having reached, or are closing in on, a century of caps.
Niall Carolan, whom McCabe listed as an injury concern last week, is named at full-back while Galway man Ciaran Brady (Corofin) and Kingscourt’s Peter Corrigan make their National League debuts.
Cormac Brady is one of five Gowna players on the panel; champions Kingscourt Stars have three while Arva, Ballyhaise, Crosserlough, Cuchulainns, Killygarry and Shannon Gaels have two apiece.
Lavey, Cavan Gaels, Mullahoran and Ramor United each have one representative.
“We have to go on who's playing with form,” McCabe told the Anglo-Celt last week.
“We've had new lads that were doing well and now we've reintroduced lads returning from injury, that will really up the ante. So it's definitely going to be a difficult team to pick, but while it’s harsh on the players that don't make it, it is probably what every management team wants.”
