New gym gives Cootehill a lift
The people of Cootehill now have the use of a new gym, following a “massive” fundraising effort from the school and wider community, which saw €36,000 raised towards the facility.
Cootehill chairman, Jonny Farrelly, unveiled the official opening plaque at St Aidan’s in Cootehill last Friday to great applause.
Gratitude was also extended to the St Aidan’s fundraising committee, who led the development of the gym, along with Principal Angela Flanagan and all office staff for their “work and commitment”.
“We thank all the students who helped with fundraising, especially the TY Future Leaders and the Active Flag class, for their fantastic efforts,” said Ms Flanagan.
A huge thanks was extended to the local GAA club for their support throughout the project and the local sponsors, who donated generously.
The gym is now open to the public outside school hours, with morning and evening access provided by Dessie Ward of Breakthrough Performance. The facility features state-of-the-art cardio and strength-training machines, functional training areas, and dedicated spaces for group and individual classes.
With flexible opening hours, the gym is a great addition to the Cootehill area.
“This opening marks an exciting development for St Aidan’s and once again highlights the strong community links between the school and the wider community,” said Ms Flanagan.
“We sincerely thank everyone who contributed,” she concluded.
