It is with regret that we report the following deaths in Counties Cavan and Monaghan in recent days as recorded on RIP.ie.

Bernadette McDermott (née O’Keefe), 5 Drumnavanagh, Farnham Road, Cavan Town, Thursday, January 29, peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Predeceased by her parents John-Thomas and Annie, her beloved husband Jim and her brothers Gabriel and James. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Gerry (Patricia)and daughter Anne (James), her adored grandchildren Meghan, Hannah, Rachael, Sarah and Caitlin, all her extended family, good neighbours, many friends, and her devoted carers who cared for her with such kindness and compassion. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Bernadette’s Funeral Mass will take place today morning at 11:30am in the Cathedral of S.s Patrick and Felim, Cavan with burial afterwards in Cullies Cemetery. The Funeral Mass can be viewed live on the parish website at www.cavantownparish.com/webcam. House private at all times please.

Terence (Terry) Lynch, of Drumagoland, Virginia, Co. Cavan, on the 29th January 2026. Predeceased by his parents Mary Ann and Thomas, his sisters Kathleen (Kitty), Anna and Marie, and his brother Cathal. Sadly missed by his brother Paddy, his sister Collette Keogh (Nenagh), his sisters-in-law Pauline and Bernadette, his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Requiem mass today, January 31, in St Ultan’s Church, Killinkere at 11am. Burial afterwards to the family plot in the Old Cemetery on the Oldcastle Road in Ballyjamesduff.

Family flowers only please, donations in lieu, if desired, to the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

Freddie Tilson Drummullig, Butlersbridge, Cavan., Friday January, 30 peacefully at Lisdarn Transitional care unit, Cavan.

Predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Louisa, sister Olwyn, brother George and his wonderful friend, Violet Pratt. Remembered with love by his sister-in-law, Doreen, nephews, David (Maej), Brian (Zuzana), Alan (Lisa), niece Lesley (Olly), grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins, relatives, very good neighbours, and many friends.

Resting at the family home on Sunday, February 1 from 3pm until 7pm concluding with prayers.

Family time thereafter please. Funeral service in Derryheen Parish Church on Monday at 2pm, followed by burial in adjoining Churchyard.

David Hamill, Knockatallon, Scotstown, Co Monaghan H18PV32 peacefully in the loving care of his family.

Dearly beloved husband of Frances and a much loved father to Daithí. Dear son-in-law of Eddie Gray and a much loved brother-in-law to Helen (Eddie Sherlock), Fergal, Edward (Siobhan) and Aidan (Michelle). A treasured uncle to his nieces and nephews, Michael, Katie-May, Chloe, Darran, Cían, Ellie and Odhran. Pre-deceased by his mother Susan Hamill and mother-in-law Kathleen Gray.

Removal from his home on Saturday afternoon at 1:45pm to arrive at St Joseph's Chapel, Knockatallon for funeral mass at 2:30pm.

Burial afterwards in St Mary's cemetery, Urbleshanny. Family flowers only please.

Margaret Rose Daniels, Annyart, Castleblayney, Monaghan aged 92, Church Hill Lodge, Annyart, Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan on Tuesday, January 27, peacefully at her home in the loving care of her family.

Predeceased by her husband Douglas and brother Gordon.

Margaret is sadly missed and will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Jan and son-in-law Sean, son Gary and wife Jenny, and son Mark and wife Tanya.

Margaret will repose at her home removal on Saturday 31, to arrive at Lakelands Crematorium Cavan, for service at 2pm.

Catherine Fitzpatrick (née Mc Gardle), Crossduff, Shantonagh, Castleblayney, Monaghan on Thursday, 29 January peacefully at Cavan General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Predeceased by her husband Seamus, son Seamus, sisters Alice and Mary and parents Patrick and Mary .

Catherine will be deeply regretted and sadly missed by her sons Patrick (Eilish), Gabriel (Aoife), Seamus Rip (Fionnuala) and daughter Olivia (Piers), brothers Patrick and Owen, her cherished grandchildren Ronan, Samuel, Amelia, Oisín, Fionn, Cormac, Andrea, Úna, Sénan, and Aodhán, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Catherine will repose at her home in Crossduff (A75 K230). Removal from her home this morning at 10:40am to arrive at The Sacred Heart Church, Lough Egish, for funeral mass at 11am, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Margaret Finnegan (née Kerr), Castleblayney, County Monaghan.

Margaret passed peacefully into eternal life on Thursday, January 29, surrounded by her loving family, in the exceptional care of the staff of the Willowbridge Ward, Monaghan Hospital.

Predeceased by her parents Terry and Maureen Kerr, sister Kathleen and sister-in-law Maura.

Margaret will be very sadly missed by her loving family: Gerry, Donna (Fergal), Brenda (Seamus), Megan (Ryan), her ten grandchildren Karen, Lily, Finn, Sean, Maisie, Cian, Isla, Evie, Daniel and Molly; her brothers Martin, Noel and Joe; her sisters Eileen (Galligan), Angela (Kelly), Rita and Brid (Gnoza); extended family, neighbours and friends.

Margaret's funeral cortège will travel from Wards Funeral Home, Ballybay on this afternoon (Saturday) at 1:40pm, to arrive at Our Lady of Knock Church, Ballintra for funeral mass at 2pm, followed by a private cremation.

Margaret McCarville (nee Mc Caughey), Clonkeen, Clones and formerly of The Creighton Hotel, Clones Co. Monaghan. Margaret passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, January 30, 2026. Predeceased by her beloved husband Leo.

Adored mother of Edel (Gerry), Leone (John), Celine (Brendan) and Patrick (Marion). Adrian Keenan, Fermoyle, Smithborough, Co. Monaghan, much loved son of Sean and the late Josephine Keenan, Wednesday, January 28, tragically, following a road traffic accident.

Cherished son of Sean and adored brother to Jacinta, John (Leanne), Eugene (Jeny) and Veronica. Adrian will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his heartbroken Dad, sisters, brothers and their partners, his nephews, Caleb, Aaron and Austin, his loving partner, Alannah, his aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbours, work colleagues, wide circle of friends and by all who knew and loved Adrian.

Adrian will repose at the family home, Fermoyle, Smithborough, Co. Monaghan this evening (Saturday) and Sunday evening from 4pm to 8pm. House private to family and close friends at all other times please, Adrian's Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, February 2 in St. Mary's Church, Urbleshanny, Scotstown, at 11am. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Helen (Nell) Gaughan (née Gray) Clonberne, Galway / Knockatallon, Monaghan and Tottenham, London.

Helen passed away peacefully in her 86th year in the presence of her loving family and in the exceptional care of the staff at Central Park Nursing Home.

Beloved wife of the late Martin Gaughan and dear mother of Cathy Rabbitte (Clonberne), Caroline Murray (Roy, Dunmore), Fiona Gaughan (London), Martin Gaughan (London) and Peter Gaughan (Los Angeles), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Helen will repose at Clonberne Community Centre (H53 W3W2) Saturday, January 31 from 5pm until 7pm followed by removal to her residence in Clonberne, family only.

Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Clonberne (H53 XC89) Sunday, February 1 at 1pm burial afterwards in Clonberne cemetery.

Family flowers only, donations if desired may be made as an act of kindness to another, in remembrance of Helen.
