Monaghan Park due for upgrade
The scenic Peter’s Lake park in the centre of Monaghan Town is due for a significant upgrade, the latest meeting of the Monaghan MD was informed.
Co-ordinator Martin Taylor outlined plans for the expenditure of €40,000 secured from the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme for the amenity.
Mr Taylor said the funding would be used to improve pathways, enhance drainage, install energy efficient lighting and implement biodiversity planting, with some planting having already been completed in December. A tender process is already underway to appoint a contractor to carry out resurfacing and drainage works.
The meeting also learned that works on the new storm culvert in the Peter’s Lake area are due to finish at the end of February.
Mr Taylor said that, following completion of the tunnelling section of the project, the installation of the culvert across the Plantation Road has now been completed as far as the boundary of the Office of Public Works (OPW) property in the area. He noted that traffic management arrangements in place for the duration of the works were removed in order to allow for a two-way traffic flow during the month of December.
The Co-ordinator added that the coming weeks would see works completed at the rear of a Plantation Road residential property, and a new pipeline laid through the long-term car park to Peter’s Lake.
