Death of local businessman, Jimmie Brady, announced
Well-known hotelier, Jimmie Brady from Cootehill, has passed away.
THE death has been announced of local businessman and hotelier, Jimmie Brady, of Cootehill.
He passed away on Monday, February 2.
The proprietor of the White Horse Hotel in Cootehill and Cootehill Livestock Mart was part of a Brady family business dynasty who owned several marts and hotels in Cavan and neighbouring counties.
The Brady Bros. Marts and Hotel Group was a prominent business force from the late 1960s through to the 80s.
The group included Cootehill Mart, Cavan Mart, Mohill Mart, Dowra Mart and Carnaross Mart.
The Brady portfolio also included several hotels including The White Horse Hotel, Cootehill, The Kilmore in Cavan town and The Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan town.
Many local people had already begun to leave online tributes to Mr Brady whose passing was announced this morning.
While some well-wishers described him as a “gentleman” and “lovely man” others referred to the businessman.
“It was an honour to work under such a 'dedicated leader',” Kevin the barman at the White Horse wrote.
Another wrote: “Fond memories from Cootehill and Cavan and Carnaross marts.”
Another simply said: “A gentleman and very good fun we had in the white horse [sic] over the years.”
Jimmie Brady leaves behind his wife Ann, Son Tommie, Daughters Nan, Noramai and Mary, Son-in-law Sean, grandchildren Ann, Sean, James and Edward Brother Patrick, Brothers-in-law, Sisters-in-law, Nieces, Nephews, relatives and a large circle of friends.
Mr Brady will repose at his home from tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3, until his removal to St Michael’s Church, Cootehill on Wednesday for 11 o’clock funeral mass.
