Several roads in Cavan and Monaghan remain impassable

Six roads in Cavan and Monaghan still affected by flooding. More rain expected tomorrow.

SOME roads in Monaghan and Cavan remain impassable as a result of flooding caused by storm Chandra last week and despite “a welcome respite in rainfall”.

In Monaghan, the county council advises of four local roads which are still impassable while in Cavan two remain closed to traffic.

The L7607, Bleech Road, Shercock is reported as flooded and impassable in some sections, specifically near Meadows Estate.

Likewise, the L5552 at Elteen, Ballyhiase is still impassable. The oficial advise is to avoid these areas for now.

In Monaghan, all regional and national roads are open across the county but four local roads, the L 4113-0 at Laragh, L 4007-0 at Lackan Bridge, the L P3720 at Annadrumman and the L 37031 at Longfield remain impassable.

While conditions are improving in Monaghan river levels remain high and crews are continuing to monitor the situation there.

With further rain forecast for tomorrow, Monaghan County Council asks the public to “continue to exercise caution, avoid affected routes, and follow all local signage.”

The local authority has a 24-hr emergency number on 1800 121 121. Local people can also sign up for real-time updates on road closures, weather warnings and emergency notices on alerts.monaghancoco.ie.

Cavan County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team (SWAT) will be monitoring conditions throughout and Municipal District crews, Civil Defence, and the fire service are on hand to assist if necessary.
