Spate of burglaries

Gardaí are appealing for information following a spate of burglaries across Cavan and Monaghan.

A burglary at a home in the An Clós estate in the Bawn, Shantonagh area occurred on Friday, January 30, some time between 11am and 11pm, when a number of items were stolen.

Detectives are also probing a separate break-in, which took place on January 28 in the Kingscourt area between 3:30-6:10pm. The homeowners returned to find their rear patio door smashed and house ransacked, and a significant sum of money was stolen along with an 18-carat single-centred solitaire diamond engagement ring.

Two further burglaries occurred January 12 between 4pm and 6pm in the Mullaghboy area, where entry was again gained through a patio door and the home ransacked, and in the Carrickfern Estate in Cavan Town, on January 25 between 12:15-3:30pm.

In the first nine months of 2025, 15 people appeared before the courts in Cavan and 13 in Monaghan charged with burglary offences. Three individuals in Cavan and one in Monaghan were sent for trial to the circuit court during the period.
