St Dymphna’s NS secures second Special class
Announcement welcomed locally.
St Dymphna’s National School in Tydavnet has received a major boost with confirmation that it has been approved for a second special classroom.
The positive news was delivered under the Government’s latest announcement of 37 new special classes nationwide in Tranche 3, and represents a significant victory for the school community by strengthening local access to vital educational supports for children with additional needs.
Fine Gael TD David Maxwell said the approval is a testament to tireless advocacy and teamwork of the entire Tydavnet community. When Minister Hildegarde Naughton and I visited the school last month, we saw firsthand the dedication of the staff and the strong sense of community that exists there. I am delighted that their hard work and advocacy have been recognised with the approval of this second special class. This investment will make a real difference in the lives of children and their families.”
Local councillor and fellow party colleague, Pauric Clerkin, described the decision as the culmination of a united and determined campaign.
“I’m absolutely delighted to see St Dymphna’s NS receive the green light for a second special classroom. I have been proud to work alongside the school principal, the Board of Management, the Parents Association and the wider school community to help make this happen," said Cllr Clerkin. "This result reflects the commitment, teamwork and dedication shown by everyone involved. It’s a fantastic outcome for the school, for families, and most importantly for the children who will benefit from this vital support.”
Cllr Alan Johnston also welcomed the announcement, stressing the transformative impact of continued investment in special education.
“This is a very positive development for Tydavnet and the surrounding areas. Expanding special education capacity locally ensures that children can access the supports they need within their own community. I want to commend everyone involved in advocating for this class and thank the Minister and Deputy Maxwell for their engagement with the school. It is great to see such a strong community effort rewarded.” he said.
