McKiernan barred from holding directorships
Disgraced former cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Séan McKiernan, has been officially barred from the corporate world after being deemed 'unsuitable to hold office of any kind'.
The Bailieborough native, once a rising star within Fine Gael ranks before losing his seat in the local elections, has been slapped with a five-year ban from acting as a company director.
The order comes after McKiernan was jailed in December for two years and nine months for stealing €172,000 from a charity supporting housing and mental health services.
The court heard how the stolen funds were squandered on male escorts and drugs.
Documents obtained by the Sunday World and published at the weekend reveal that authorities moved decisively to shut Mr McKiernan out of any future corporate role for the immediate future.
The disqualification will remain in force until December 2030.
