Enquiries 'ongoing' after suspicious approach of child

Gardaí confirmed to The Anglo-Celt they have “received” a report of the alleged incident

Gardaí in Cavan have confirmed that enquiries are “ongoing” following an reported suspicious approach of a child last week.

The alleged incident happened in the Willow Avenue area of Belturbet last Friday afternoon, February 13, at around 4:30pm, when a small group with children walking near the local playground were said to have been approached by a red-coloured Toyota car bearing a Northern Ireland vehicle registration, which pulled up nearby.

According to a social media post, an older man described as “grey-haired” and smoking a pipe allegedly attempted to “lure” a young boy, who was walking slightly ahead of the group, towards the vehicle. The post claims the driver then tried to entice the child “into the car” by using a small dog as “bait”.

While the details of the incident remain unverified, Gardaí confirmed to The Anglo-Celt they have “received” a report of the incident, with a spokesperson adding that “enquiries” are continuing.
