Council to 'look into' communication app

An app on which Cavan County Council could share updates on emergency, weather and resident communication matters was suggested at the February council meeting.

The motion was tabled by Cllr Shane P O'Reilly (II) who made his pitch for the 'Cavan County Council Crisis and Intervention App'.

"Every resident in Cavan could have updates on their phone," he said, selling the vision as a "central location" where people can get all updates in one place.

With the development of this app, residents could receive notifications from the council, ESB, Irish Water, Met Éireann; as well as notices about road disruptions or closures, and other emergency updates straight to their phone.

Cllr Áine Smith (FF) supported the motion, however she pointed out that if the electricity goes, then people may not be able to charge their phones, and therefore won’t have access to the app.

The council executive committed to "look into it" .
