White Star complex set for development

A development is on the cards for the former White Star pub on Cavan Town's Main Street. The premises itself has been vacant for several years.

Radar Investments is seeking planning permission for a material change of use from a public house to a mixed-use development scheme. Plans provide for the conversion of the ground floor into four retail units, complete with associated toilets, storage areas, signage and new shopfronts. The proposal also includes a second-floor extension to accommodate two two-bedroom apartments, each measuring approximately 83 square metres.

Company records show the landowner’s address is registered at Company Formations International, Northumberland Road, Ballsbridge, under Sonicford Limited, which was incorporated in 2014. Sonicford operates within the activities of its head office, Philip King Electrical Ltd, Main Street, Killeshandra.

The Main Street proposal follows a separate large-scale residential scheme brought forward by Radar Investments last year at Friars Walk, Farnham Road.

That development proposed a five-storey apartment block comprising 66 units - including a mix of one- two- and three-bed apartments - along with balconies or ground-floor terraces.

The Farnham Road plans also included a new access point and bridge from Farnham Road, internal roads and footpaths, communal and public open spaces with a formal play area, and undercroft parking spaces with electric vehicle charging points.

Although the scheme was granted permission with revisions and subject to 39 conditions, it was subsequently appealed to An Coimisiún Pleanála.

A planning decision in relation to The White Star redevelopment is due, meanwhile, early April.
