Empowering culture at Cavan Credit Union
By Eimear Tobin
At Cavan Credit Union, we are proud to be led by women - with 86% of our team and 100% of our management being female. This is more than a statistic, it’s a direct reflection of the progressive, empowering culture we have built, where women are encouraged to lead, innovate, and make an impact.
That culture starts at the top. Having a strong female presence on our voluntary board of directors, who provide strategic oversight and guidance, empowers management and staff to deliver efficient and effective operations.
Our team is always eager to take on new challenges, expand their skills, and further their education. That ambition, combined with a supportive culture, creates momentum: Individuals excel in their own roles while being championed by colleagues across departments. When one team is under pressure, others step in. When new ideas emerge, they are shared, refined, and strengthened collectively. That unity drives results.
Our female leadership is not just symbolic – it delivers tangible outcomes. Over the years, we have grown our loan book, expanded our workforce, and broadened the services we provide. From the introduction of current accounts in 2022 to now offering mortgages, our support for members and the local community continues to grow.
Coming into 2026, our loan book exceeds €45 million, having loaned out over €18 million in 2024/2025. With our current promotional loan sale running until the end of March, we are confident of surpassing these figures – a direct testament to the ambition and capability of our team.
For me, leadership is about impact. At Cavan Credit Union, fostering growth, championing talent, and supporting each other isn’t just a principle – it is a way of life, and it is this culture that ensures women here don’t just lead, they excel.
