Two drugs seizures in Cavan in one day

Gardaí searched a second property in Cavan following the arrest of a male on Friday

GARDAÍ in Cavan have seized a second haul of suspected cannabis in Co Cavan yesterday (Friday).

The second seizure was of €156,000 worth of suspected cannabis from a property in Cavan town.

Earlier the same day, officers from the Cavan Drugs Unit, working alongside members of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Revenue Customs Service seized approximately 6.2 kilograms of suspected herbal cannabis with the estimated street value of €125,000 or 6.2 kilograms from a property in the county.

During the search of the second property, Gardaí discovered 7.8 kilograms of the suspected drug.

The total value of the two seizures is €281,000.

The male, aged in his 30s, who was arrested following the first search remains detained a station in the Garda North-Western Region under provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.
