Former Liberty Insurance sold for almost €340m

Liberty Insurance took over Quinn Direct which had offices in Cavan, Enniskillen and Blanchardstown

ZURICH is in the process of buying the former Liberty Insurance company for €337m.

Liberty Insurance took over the main businesses of Quinn Insurance in November 2011 following its administration, rebranding it to Liberty Insurance in 2012.

In 2024, the business was acquired by the Generali Group and rebranded again to RedClick. Zurich has been trading in Ireland for 75 years.

At that point the business had about 250,000 customers, and 400 staff in offices in Dublin, Enniskillen and Cavan.

In a statement, Zurich said the acquisition is fully in line with its retail strategy and will “transform its market position and place it among the top three life and non-life insurance providers in Ireland.”

The CEO of Zurich Ireland said the team and customers at RedClick will transfer and become part of Zurich’s non-life insurance business in Ireland.

“We will build on the complementary strengths of both organisations, further enhancing Zurich’s digital and product offering and delivering a seamless service and brighter future for our Irish customers,” Anthony Brennan said.

In their statement to the press, Zurich says this acquisition “reinforces Zurich’s continued investment in Ireland and its ambition to grow its insurance offering in line with the evolving needs of Irish customers.”

The acquisition is conditional on legal and regulatory approvals and is expected to close by the end of 2026 or early 2027.
