N2 driver among first caught speeding at start of bank holiday weekend
Driver in Monaghan clocked at 108 km/h in 80 zone on first day of Gardai's St Patrick's weekend road safety campaign
A DRIVER in Monaghan is among the first during An Garda Síochána’s St Patrick’s bank holiday weekend road safety campaign to be detected speeding.
The driver who was clocked on the N2 in Drumcarrow doing 108 km/h in a 80 km/h zone made it into the list of top five speeding offenders on the first day if the campaign.
A Garda Roads Policing Operation is taking place throughout the St Patrick’s Bank Holiday Weekend between 7am yesterday, Thursday, March 12 until 7am on Wednesday, March 18.
During the first day of the operation yesterday March until 7am this morning there was one fatality as a result of traffic collisions on our roads. This brings the total number of fatalities on Irish roads this year to 35.
Notable speeds detected yesterday include: 82 km/h in a 50km/hr zone on the Davitt Road, Dublin 12; 124 km/h in a 60km/hr zone on the R147 in Piercetown, Dunboyne, Co. Meath and; 119 km/h in a 100km/hr zone on the N53 in Barronstown, Hackballscross, Co. Louth
During this period, over 40 drivers were detected holding a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.
