Celebrations in Clones as Largy win All-Ireland

Largy College, Clones won their first All-Ireland title in Saturday’s Br. Edmund Ignatius Rice Cup Final against Rice College from Ennis at the Connacht GAA Centre, Bekan.

Odhrán Carolan’s goal just short of the half-hour mark increase Largy’s interval advantage to a healthy seven points at 1-5 to 0-1 and they never looked like letting that lead slip, with six players getting on the scoresheet and their defence shutting down a Rice College attack that failed to score from open play.

The Clare side did manage the game’s only two-pointer from a Seán Hegarty free with five minutes to go, but a Rían Quigley penalty save denied Niall Doyle a much-needed lifeline.

All but a point of Largy’s total came from play, with Aidan McFarland and Oisín Lynch starring up front as they secured a 1-11 to 0-5 win.
