Over €5m of suspected cocaine seized in Monaghan
The Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau and other garda personnel intercepted vehicles in Monaghan on Friday
COCAINE worth an estimated €5.25m has been seized in Co Monaghan.
The seizure was made by a garda crack team that intercepted a number of vehicles and searched a business premises in Monaghan on Friday.
A man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s have been arrested and are being questioned in garda stations in the Monaghan division.
The interceptions and search were conducted as part of Operation Tara; the national anti-drugs strategy, launched in 2021.
Personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau supported by the Dublin Crime Response Team conducted conducted the Monaghan operation and seized suspected cocaine with an estimated value of €5.25 million.
This operation was supported by the Custom Revenue Service, local Units in Monaghan and international partners from the Belgian Federal Maritime Police.
The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.
Investigations are ongoing.
