Truck driver in fatal Monaghan collision takes up bail

THE ROMANIAN truck driver, charged with dangerous driving causing the death of 37-year-old Monaghan woman Emma Mackarel, has been remanded on continuing bail to appear again at Monaghan District Court on May 11 next.

Ion Bucurica (56), with an address at Avenue Victor Hugo, 33110 Le Bouscat, Bordeaux, France, is also charged with having no insurance and failing to produce insurance on the 2015-registered articulated Volvo lorry he was driving on the occasion.

The fatal accident took place at N2, Mullaghnee, Annalitten, Castleblayney on Thursday 18, December, and Mr Bucurica had been in custody until last week, when he was in a position to take up High Court bail.

At Monaghan District Court on Monday, March 23, it was confirmed by Sergeant Lisa McEntee that DPP instructions are still awaited in the case.

Judge Raymond Finnegan remanded Mr Bucurica to appear again the court on May 11.
