Quid Games raise over €180k in Monaghan club

Monaghan’s Gaa club Éire Óg Na Mullaí GAC raised a whopping €180,000-plus in a Quid Game fundraiser last February. The overall winner Ollie Murray received €10,000 which he generously donated to two chosen charities and the club.

The Smithborough man gave €3,500 to Teresa O’Hanlon, Patient Champion with the Irish Heart Foundation and €3,500 to Dympna Sharpe from Breast Cancer Ireland. He gave the remaining €3,000 back to the GAA club.

Ollie secured the prize after emerging as the overall winner of the club’s spectacular Quid Game fundraising event, which took place on Sunday, February 1 at the Hillgrove Hotel. The event attracted over 500 attendees and raised an incredible €181,899.61 for the club.

A total of 34 contestants took part in the event, each representing clubs or charities and taking part in a series of high-energy games throughout the night. After intense competition, it was Ollie Murray, who emerged victorious in the final, overcoming strong opposition from John McGuirk, who proudly represented local rivals Killeevan Sarsfield GAA Club.

The evening, hosted by Brendan Fanning and Pat McCabe, was filled with excitement from start to finish, creating an electric atmosphere that will be remembered in the community for years to come.

Speaking about the event, Paul Hand, Chairperson of Éire Óg Na Mullaí GAC, said the club was overwhelmed by the level of support shown by the community.

“The support for this event was simply incredible. Each contestant had a fundraising target of €2,000 and they didn’t just meet it, they smashed it. The generosity of our main sponsors, McGorman Windows PVC Windows & Doors and The Skule Inn, was fantastic. We would also like to sincerely thank all the businesses who sponsored contestants and the event night booklet, along with everyone in the community who supported the many fundraising events and raffles.”

The remarkable success of the night was made possible thanks to the dedication of the organising committee, who worked tirelessly for months to deliver a truly memorable event. The club also extended its appreciation to Clubspot for their professional support and facilitation throughout the fundraising campaign.

Funds raised from the Quid Game will go directly towards upgrading facilities and supporting the continued development of Éire Óg Na Mullaí GAC, helping to ensure a strong and sustainable future for the club and its members.

“Éire Óg Na Mullaí GAC would like to thank everyone who attended, donated, sponsored, competed and supported the event, making it one of the most successful fundraising initiatives in the club’s history,” said Paul Hand.
