Progress on school projects
A PRESENTATION given to the members of the Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB) detailed progress for all the capital development projects in the region.
Karen McBride, Director of Organisation Support and Development at CMETB, delivered a detailed presentation to the Board on the status of ongoing building, upgrade and emergency works at schools, third-level colleges and FET facilities under the umbrella of the board.
Colaiste Dún an Rí: The required detailed design report was submitted to the Department of Education in June 2025.
Breifne College: On March 11, CMETB received notice that planning permission will be granted for the extension comprising of four general classrooms, seven SET rooms three science labs, two engineering rooms, two tech rooms, a graphics room, art room, textiles room and two SEN classrooms.
Virginia College: Ms McBride informed the board that planning permission has now been granted for nine general classrooms, two SET rooms, three science labs, two prep areas, an art room, music room and four SEN classrooms. The detailed design is now progressing.
Inver College: Likewise, planning permission has been granted to Inver College in Carrickmacross for four SEN classrooms, two SET rooms, a GP hall, a textile room, music room and science lab with prep area and “the design team is progressing" with the next stage of the process.
Gaelscoil Lorgan: Work on the Gaelscoil Lorgan school in Castleblayney is expected to be completed by June, the director told the board.
Construction of the purpose-built facility, which, includes eight general classrooms, a GP hall, library, two Special Education Teaching rooms, multi-purpose room and storage and toilet facilities began in September 2024.
Monaghan Collegiate: In August 2025, a detailed design report was submitted to the Department of Education for a new PE hall.
Royal School Cavan: CMETB is awaiting instructions from the Department after a feasibility report was submitted.
Edenmore Primary School: The school is currently engaging with departments regarding the scope of works for one mainstream classroom and ensuite, two ASD classrooms and en suite shower area.
