Post-mortem results will assist in “determining the direction" of investigation

An investigation is under way after a woman's body was discovered at an apartment in Cavan town in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to a residential property on James Connolly Street where the woman, aged in her early 50s was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochána confirmed they are currently investigating the death of a woman “found unresponsive” shortly after 2am on April 7.

“Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the scene, where the woman was pronounced dead. The coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.”
