Cavan and Monaghan's local champions

Two young people from Cavan and Monaghan have been selected to take part in the National Youth Council of Ireland’s 2026 Local Champions programme.

Returning local champion Aoibhe Beatty hails from Mullahoran in Cavan, while Monaghan Town's Mia Mullen has also been selected to participate.

The Local Champions programme is a national initiative that supports young people to advocate for youth work and represent the voices of young people in their communities.

Involved with Foróige, Aoibhe said she is "delighted" to be returning as a local champion for the "third year."

Meanwhile Mia, who has been involved with Cavan and Monaghan Rainbow Youth, said she is "really looking forward to what the future has in store".

"It's a wonderful thing to be able to meet with local representatives and to not only have my own voice heard but the voices of many young people across Ireland.”
