Wind farm projects face national planning decision
Two significant wind energy developments in Cavan are now under consideration by An Coimisiún Pleanála, with decisions expected later this summer.
The applications have both been submitted to An Coimisiún Pleanálaunder the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive III (REDIII) framework designed to fast-track clean energy projects.
The first proposal, lodged by the Stradone-registered Quarry Tree Wind Farm Limited, centres on a wide-ranging site spanning multiple townlands including Aughrim, Mucklagh, Gortoorlan, Snugborough, Carrowmore and Clontycarnaghan.
The project involves the repowering of an existing wind farm.
A separate application has been submitted by Dublin-registered FuturEnergy Brackley Designated Activity Company, a Dublin-registered firm, for a new wind farm development across a large swathe of west Cavan. The proposed site covers numerous townlands including Carrick East, Brackley, Mullaghlea, Cullion and Ballyhugh, among others.
This second project seeks permission for the full construction of a wind farm and all associated infrastructure, marking a substantial new addition to the county’s renewable energy network if approved.
