An Nead
Tell us about your business and team:
An Nead (The Nest), which opened on Monaghan’s Park St on 8th November 2025, is far more than just a café; it is a social enterprise with a soul, born from a common love for the Irish language and a deep commitment to inclusivity. Driven by a diverse, dedicated team of full-time and part-time staff, and a passionate group of volunteers, they have created a cultural and social hub where everyone feels at home. Their innovation lies in their structure: as a social enterprise, every cent of profit is re-invested back into promoting Gaeilge across County Monaghan.
Describe the best thing about
your service:
An Nead brings the Irish Language into everyday life- allowing people to relax over a cup of coffee while giving them space to try whatever bit of Irish they have. They take pride in being a genuinely family-friendly space, featuring a dedicated kids’ corner and affordable meal deals served with child-friendly crockery. Their shelves include books, games and greeting cards, and jewellery that includes work from local makers and artists.
What’s the best business advice you’ve ever been given?
In the Irish speaking community, people talk about “Ná habair é, déan é”- don’t say it, do it. Getting out there and creating a unique retail space that empowers people is what we are about.
What does the future hold for your business?
We wish to continue with reaching out and enhancing the services and events that we provide for all sections of the community and to keep serving good coffee!
