Drift Farmhouse luxury Airbnb
Tell us about your business and team:
Farmhouse is a high-end rural retreat based outside Castleblayney. Drift offers exclusive use stays for groups, families and retreats, and guests benefit from the tranquil nature filled valley and exceptional spa and sports facilities on site including an indoor endless pool (with underwater treadmill), sauna, hot tub, gym and studio space. The business is family-run and is operated in partnership with Rory McAtavie (Ballybay), and Unique Homestays. Guests have access to a network of local suppliers including chefs, fitness instructors and massage therapists. Since opening in November, bookings have poured in from Ireland, the UK, the US, the UAE and Australia.
Describe the best thing about your service:
Starting with a traditional 1900s Monaghan farmhouse, the owners wanted to protect a great example of one the great barns of Monaghan immortalised in the works of Patrick Kavanagh. Since the border region is not known for tourism in Ireland, we wanted to offer an experience that would attract visitors from around the world and ensure guests would enjoy themselves whether it was a rainy November day or a glorious summers day. The goal was to offer so much to do inside, a standard of comfort, and beautiful views, that looking out at the rain was as enjoyable as a summer’s stay.
What’s the best business advice you’ve ever been given?
Everything in business is about people – working with great partners and treating guests with personal and prompt service. Working with Rory McAtavie and Unique Homestays has been central to the success of the business so far. Building relationships with local suppliers has been a fun part of the business.
What does the future hold for your business?
Drift Farmhouse will continue to be marketed internationally, positioning Drift Farmhouse for groups of 4–10 as a private alternative to spa hotels, an option for families beyond Centre Parcs, and a destination for visitors seeking a traditional Irish rural experience, while introducing all-inclusive options and curated retreats later this year.
