Improved water supply at Aughnamullen

Uisce Éireann customers in Aughnamullen are enjoying the benefits of an improved water supply this springtime.

This comes after the recent completion of a major programme of mains replacement in the area.

As part of Uisce Eireann’s National Leakage Reduction programme, more than 2.5km of aging mains were replaced with new, modern pipes in and around Aughnamullen.

The programme of mains replacement began last autumn and was completed early this year. Full reinstatement has recently been completed to bring the project to a close.

These new mains have provided a higher-quality water supply to homes and businesses in Aughnamullen and the surrounding areas, while reducing operational issues on the local network and reducing the volume of water lost to underground leakage.

Uisce Éireann Programme Manager Patricia Lowry detailed the benefits that local customers and communities can look forward to as a result of these mains upgrades.

“These new mains will help to provide a more secure and reliable supply of clean drinking water for residents, businesses and visitors to the Aughnamullen area,” said Patricia.

“They will also strengthen the local network, while helping us work toward our goal of driving down rates of treated water lost to leakage before it ever arrives in our customers’ taps.”

These works required some traffic management measures, including traffic lights on the R162 and a temporary road closure on the L-30103.

The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans Construction.
