Man pleads guilty to murdering mother
The accused has been in custody since his arrest in January 2025.
A Cavan man has pleaded guilty to murdering his mother and attempting to murder his father at the family home they shared back in January 2025.
Danny Heyneman (32) was arraigned before the Central Criminal Court on Monday, where prosecutor for the State, Gerardine Small SC, informed that the defendant could be arraigned on both charges.
He pleaded guilty to murdering Annie Heyneman at Kilnavart, Ballyconnell on January 11, 2025; and also to attempting to murder Henk Heyneman at the same address on the same date.
Mr Small told the CCC that victim impact statements would be required.
Keith Spencer BL, representing the defendant, asked that an education and governors' reports be prepared.
The accused has been in custody since his arrest in January 2025.
The court the defence intends to use parts of a previously prepared psychiatric report at the sentencing hearing.
Justice Paul McDermott fixed a sentencing date for May 19 when the court will hear background evidence in relation to the case.
