Farney U20s hit Fermanagh for five
On a busy Saturday in the Ulster LGFA scene, Monaghan picked up wins at U-20 and U-18 levels, while the U-16s fell just short in the Gold Final against Armagh.
Rose Carolan netted the game’s only goal for Monaghan’s U-16s in Kinawley, while Laura Murtagh’s penalty save also helped keep her side in touch, only for Armagh to eventually push ahead to win by 0-14 to 1-8.
The county’s U-20 and minor sides were both in prolific form in wins over Fermanagh. In the newly-launched U-20 championship, Monaghan won by 5-9 to 2-5 in Blackhill, with five different goal-scorers, namely Áine Maguire, Mairéad Cusack, Aoibheann Donaghy, Emma Hughes and Faela Hannigan.
The U-18 Bronze semi-final saw Monaghan power to a 4-18 to 1-9 victory in Belcoo, with Ellie Flanagan (2-3) and Megan Boyle (0-6) leading the scoring. Chloe Hughes and Órlaith Hoey also found the net as Monaghan led from start to finish.
Meanwhile, Monaghan’s senior ladies are set to begin their Ulster Intermediate Championship campaign this weekend with a home game against Down, which is currently scheduled to be played in Castleblayney on Sunday at 2pm. The game between Fermanagh and Cavan will take place tonight (Wednesday) in Tempo.
