THE new extension and refurbishment of St Clare’s NS in Cavan Town was officially opened and blessed by the Bishop of Kilmore today.
Two pupils cut the ribbon at the entrance to their contemporary new school, the construction in which was completed around this time last year.
The project included a 250sqm, 10-classroom extension, together with the refurbishment of the existing school building.
The state-of-the-art facility now has 29 mainstream classrooms, one MGLD (Mild General Learning Disability) classroom, 16 special education teaching classrooms, a general hall, multi-purpose room and a sensory room.
Bishop of Kilmore the Reverend Martin Hayes is patron of St Clare’s and today, he blessed the new extension and school facilities.
Then, after speeches from principal Alma Leonard, school chaplain Fr Kevin Fay, Chairman of the Board of Management, Paul Surlis, and Deputy Brendan Smith (FF), invited guests were treated to a performance of some of the songs from St Clare’s Musical Society’s recent production of the Wizard of Oz.
“From the moment you enter our school grounds, it is clear that this project has transformed our environment,” Ms Leonard said, “Our new extension provides modern, bright and inclusive learning spaces.”
Later in the afternoon, family members and the public were invited into St Clare’s to see for themselves the result of years of work by past staff and board members and the current school staff to bring the project to completion.
“We’re delighted with our state-of-the-art facilities and our new, bright building, which, reflects the positive and bright atmosphere in our school,” Alma Leonard told the Celt.
