Monaghan gardaí seize six vehicles in bank holiday crackdown

Two underage drivers, 25 km/h over the limit and six vehicles seized - all in Monaghan this weekend.

IT HAS been a busy bank holiday weekend for the Cavan/Monaghan Roads Policing Units who detected eight separate serious road offences since Friday.

A Garda Roads Policing Operation is taking place throughout the May Bank Holiday Weekend between 7am on Thursday until 7am on Tuesday.

On Friday night, gardai in Clones stopped two separate underage drivers using vehicles on local roads.

"Obviously being underage, neither of them had a driver's licence nor any insurance," gardai said in an online post.

It is a basic legal requirement that both drivers and vehicles have the correct documentation for use on the road "and must be of the proper legal age", the post also said.

By Saturday, Monaghan gardai said their bank holiday operation was "in full swing" as they seized four vehicles within 90 minutes.

The vehicles were removed for varying offences of no insurance and licensing offences.

When An Garda Síochána released their usual national update of speeding detections today (Sunday), two motorists in Monaghan made it on to the list of worst offenders.

One driver was clocked doing 80 km/h in a 50 zone on the R183, Dernaglug, Doohamlet. A second was detected at 25 km/hr over the limit, or 105 km/hr, on the N2, Carrigans, Emyvale.
