Manor Farm chicken products recalled over 'possible' salmonella
Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the products which are all past their use-by date
SOME Manor Farm chicken products have been recalled over the possible presence of salmonella.
According to the Food Safety Authority, the batches which are of concern are all past their use-by date but since the products are suitable for home freezing, consumers are asked to check their freezers for the "implicated batches".
The products thought to be affected include chicken thighs and free range chicken fillets sold to Dunne Stores, whole chickens, cook in the bag chickens and chicken fillets stocked in Aldi and various other ranges sold into Centra and Supervalu stores.
All of the products have a use-by date of either April 12 or 13, 2026.
The Manor Farm processing plant is situated in Shercock, Co. Cavan together with the company's Nutrition Centre (Feed Mill).
"Our Farms are primarily in the North East of Ireland with a number of farms further spread out around the country," The Manor Farm website reads.
People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours.
The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.
The Food Safety Authority advise consumers "not to eat the implicated batches".
