Mitchells get €40k for energy upgrade

Magheracloone Mitchells GFC secured €41,320 under the Community Climate Action Programme, which will further enhance their new grounds on the Kingscourt-Carrickmacross Road.

Reacting to the positive development this week, club chairperson Darren Duffy commented: “It’s for solar panels, a bike shed and water bottle filling stations.”

Asked if the club was all about the environment, Darren added: “We’ve took a step towards a greener environment, recycling bottles etc, so solar is the next step for us.

We’re in the middle of starting a new development.

The energy upgrades will be applied to the clubhouse.”

He praised those responsible for the grant.

“I’d like to thank the committee, particularly Martin Farrelly who made the application.

“We knew we were in the mixing pot, but we only got an official award yesterday (Thursday).

“We have to draw down the money and get quotes, but we’ll be looking to start as soon as we can.”
