Motorist caught driving at 100km/h in a 60 zone at Drung
Cavan and Monaghan featured heavily in the notable speeds detected by gardaí over the bank holiday weekend.
The latest motorist was detected yesterday travelling at 100km/h in a 60km/h zone on the R188 at Drung. Another driver was caught speeding at 130 km/h at the same location earlier in the weekend.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, a motorist on the R183 at Dernaglug, Doohamlet, was clocked doing 102km/h in a 50 zone.
On the first day of the operation, which, began on Thursday a driver on the 60 km/h Monaghan Road near Castleblayney was caught at 95km/h and another on the N3 at Belturbet was speeding at 121 km/h.
To date, more than 4,000 drivers were detected for speeding during the operation, which is in place until today (Tuesday).
A total of 187 people were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant (alcohol and drugs), while more than 400 drivers were detected for holding a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.
