Hollywood star Chris O'Dowd drops by popular Cavan hotspot
Well-known Ballyconnell establishment now being run by fourth-generation publican Seán McGoldrick.
Hollywood actor Chris O'Dowd made an unexpected appearance at one of the region's most popular bars and restaurants following Roscommon's All-Ireland championship defeat to Monaghan last weekend.
The Boyle native, best known for his roles in Bridesmaids, The IT Crowd and Moone Boy, was spotted enjoying the hospitality of the Angler's Rest in Ballyconnell after making the trip north-east to support his beloved Roscommon footballers.
Fresh from watching the Rossies suffer a disappointing 1-20 to 0-14 defeat at the hands of Monaghan in St Tiernach's Park in Clones, O'Dowd called into the bustling border venue, much to the delight of staff and customers.
“Hard luck to the Rossies today, cheers for dropping by Chris O'Dowd,” the venue posted on their Instagram alongside the picture of the famous actor and new owner, Seán McGoldrick.
The well-known Ballyconnell establishment recently entered a new chapter under the stewardship of fourth-generation publican Seán.
O'Dowd meanwhile is currently preparing to take on a major new role in Ceasefire, a forthcoming political thriller centred on Northern Ireland's peace process. The film will see him portray Irish Voice founder Niall O'Dowd in a production written and directed by acclaimed Belfast filmmaker Terry George.
The project will be produced by Fermanagh native Trevor Birney through Fine Point Films alongside Patrick O'Neill of Wildcard.
