Four teens to appear in court after 'serious' Virginia incident

Four juveniles are set to appear before the Cavan District Children's Court tomorrow morning (Thursday) charged in connection with a major public order incident in Virginia yesterday evening (Wednesday).

The teenagers will remain in garda custody overnight ahead of their court appearances tomorrow. But the media will be prohibited from naming them, by law, as they are minors.

Their arrests come as part of a garda investigation into what gardaí are describing as a "serious public order incident" and investigations are ongoing.

The Celt understands that local waterways were searched following allegations that a weapon was produced during the course of the incident.

It's believed three people have been left with significant but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.

The garda press office confirmed they were alerted to a  public order incident on Main Street, Virginia, Co Cavan, just after 5pm yesterday evening (Tuesday), July 21.

A spokesperson said: "Several persons have been conveyed to hospital. Investigations are ongoing."

The Celt understands that a group of youths were involved in the incident which began close to Lough Ramor, and then spilled on to the streets of the town.

A number of videos are circulating on social media arising from the incident.

Those in custody are being detained at stations in Bailieborough and Cavan for questioning.
