Clones Town FC to change name of John Delaney Park

Members of Clones Town FC have this week voted to stop using the name "John Delaney Park" for its club grounds.

Going forward the ground will be known as Clones Town FC Grounds, Carn, Clones.

In a statement on social media last night, the club said that it remains "genuinely grateful" for the role that the former FAI Chief Executive played in the club's development.

It also acknowledged the "significant support and contribution" made by John Delaney during an important stage in the club's development.

The club also sought to clarify rumours surrounding the name change.

Clones Town FC said: "The club also wishes to clarify that reports suggesting that the name of the grounds was affecting our current planning application were incorrect."

"The planning application played no part in the motion or the decision made by members."

"Clones Town FC is a proud community club, built on the dedication of generations of players, volunteers, members and supporters.

"Our focus, as always, is on moving forward together."
