Clones man takes charge of Derry City on interim basis

Clones native Mark Connolly is set to take over as Derry City boss on an interim basis.

The club confirmed the news this afternoon, after it parted ways with first team manager, Tiernan Lynch.

It comes as Derry City currently sit 6th in the League of Ireland standings, with just six wins from 26 games.

Earlier this season, the club appointed Connolly as Director of Football in a role that involved football operations, player recruitment, development, and now first-team coaching.

The Monaghan man spent three-and-a-half seasons playing at the Brandywell, and made 115 appearances across all competitions.

He left the club in 2025, and spent a season playing with Coleraine, before over as Director of Football with Derry.

Connolly's first outing as Derry boss is against bottom placed side Sligo Rovers at home on Friday evening at 19:45.
