Dry spell before rain returns for the weekend
Weather update from Met Éireann
Cavan and Monaghan are set for a largely dry day today (Thursday), with a mix of cloud and hazy sunshine before wetter conditions return over the weekend.
Met Éireann is forecasting just the odd isolated shower today, with most places staying dry. Temperatures will reach a pleasant 15°C to 20°C, with light to occasionally moderate westerly breezes.
Tonight will remain largely dry, with a mix of cloud and clear spells. A few isolated showers are possible, mainly in northwestern areas, while mist and fog patches may develop overnight. Temperatures will fall to between 7°C and 12°C.
Friday promises another fine summer's day for most, with sunny spells, light cloud and only the chance of a few isolated showers. Temperatures will climb to between 17°C and 23°C, with the warmest conditions expected across Leinster and Munster.
However, the settled spell is not expected to last.
Cloud will increase on Friday night as outbreaks of rain spread northeastwards across the country.
Current forecasts suggest Saturday will be largely cloudy and humid, with spells of rain developing. The heaviest and most persistent rain is expected across the northwestern half of the country, while southern and eastern counties are likely to see longer dry intervals. Daytime temperatures will range from 17°C to 22°C.
Rain will continue into Saturday night, although there will be some dry periods. It will remain mild and humid, with overnight temperatures holding between 11°C and 16°C.
Sunday should gradually improve as rain clears eastwards, allowing sunny spells and scattered showers to develop. Temperatures will range from around 16°C in the northwest to 23°C in the southeast.
Looking ahead, Monday is expected to be the pick of the days, with plenty of dry weather, a mix of sunshine and cloud, and only isolated showers. Temperatures will reach between 16°C and 21°C.
There remains some uncertainty beyond that, but current indications suggest Tuesday will be largely dry before more unsettled weather, with rain and showers, returns later in the week.
