Humid few days ahead weather wise

Another few sticky and humid days are in store for Cavan and Monaghan but, unfortunately, they won't be under blues skies.

Meanwhile, a high temperature warning has been issued for Leinster and Tipperary. It came into effect at 6am today (Wednesday) and will remain in place until 6am on Friday, August 14.

A good deal of cloud around at first today, Wednesday, with scattered outbreaks of rain or showers. The showers will ease through the day, with warm spells of sunshine developing, longest in the east and southeast.

It will remain mostly cloudy near western and southwestern coasts, however. Highest temperatures will range from 23 to 29 degrees generally, with the warmest temperatures in Leinster. It will be a little cooler along western and southwestern coasts, with temperatures of around 20 to 22 degrees there.

Winds will be light to moderate, southerly or variable.

Tonight will be dry for most with variable cloud and clear spells. Thicker cloud in the west and southwest will bring some patchy rain and drizzle, while mist and fog will also develop in places.

It will be another mild and muggy night, with lowest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in light southerly or variable breezes.

Thursday will be another warm or hot day with sunny spells and scattered showers, mainly in the west and north. Some of the showers could be heavy, with isolated thunderstorms possible.

Highest temperatures will range from 20 to 29 degrees, coolest along western coasts, in light to moderate southwesterly to westerly winds.

Thursday night will see any remaining showers or thunderstorms ease eastwards, followed by clear spells and isolated showers. Lowest temperatures will range from 12 to 17 degrees.

Friday will be a fresher day, with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers spreading from the west, becoming increasingly isolated later. Highest temperatures will fall back to between 17 and 23 degrees.

Friday night will be mainly dry with variable cloud and clear spells, with just the chance of an isolated shower in the west and north. Lowest temperatures will range from 10 to 13 degrees.

Saturday will be mainly dry with a mix of cloud, sunny spells and isolated showers. Highest temperatures will range from around 15 degrees in the northwest to 21 degrees in the southeast.

There is some uncertainty around Sunday's forecast, but current indications suggest a mostly cloudy day with outbreaks of rain moving in from the Atlantic, possibly turning heavy in the west and northwest later. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees, with southeasterly winds freshening later near Atlantic coasts.

Overall, conditions will turn fresher from Friday, with a return to more Atlantic-driven weather expected by early next week.
