Fresher conditions as weekend sunshine returns

A fresher feel is in store across Cavan and Monaghan today, Friday, following the recent spell of warm and humid weather.

Any lingering showers will clear early, leaving a largely dry day across the two counties. There will be plenty of cloud around, but sunny spells will develop through the day, becoming more widespread, particularly towards the afternoon.

A few showers will continue to affect western and northern areas.

Temperatures will be lower than recent days, with highs generally ranging from 17 degrees in the northwest to 25 degrees in the southeast. Winds will be light to moderate and northwesterly.

Tonight will be dry for the most part, with just isolated showers possible and a mixture of cloud and clear spells.

Temperatures will fall to between 10 and 15 degrees in light northwesterly breezes.

Saturday will bring further dry and settled weather to Cavan and Monaghan.

There will be some early sunny spells, particularly in the south and east, becoming more widespread during the afternoon. Cloud will increase again towards the evening, particularly in western and northern areas.

It will stay dry for most, with just the odd light shower possible.

Highest temperatures will range from 15 to 23 degrees, coolest in the west and northwest and warmest in Leinster, with light northwesterly breezes.

The weekend will see a gradual change in the weather pattern as high pressure loses its influence and a more mobile Atlantic regime begins to take hold.

Saturday night should remain dry for many, although cloud will spread eastwards from the west, bringing some patchy rain and drizzle to western and northern areas. Clear spells will remain possible further south and east.

Sunday will be mostly cloudy, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading eastwards. The rain will become increasingly patchy, with many areas staying dry, particularly across the south and east.

Temperatures will range from 17 to 22 degrees, with light to moderate south to southwest winds.

Monday will bring plenty of dry weather despite widespread cloud, with sunny spells mainly in the southeast. Some patches of rain or drizzle will occur before more persistent rain arrives into the west later in the evening.

Temperatures will range from 19 degrees in the northwest to 25 degrees in the southeast.

On Tuesday, outbreaks of rain will clear southeastwards early, followed by sunny spells and scattered showers. Temperatures will range from 17 degrees in the west and northwest to 23 degrees in the south and east.

The outlook for the remainder of next week is for more unsettled conditions, with low pressure expected to dominate and further spells of rain and showers likely.
