It is with regret that we report the following deaths in County Cavan, as recorded on RIP.ie within the past 24 hours. There were no deaths reported in Monaghan during this timeframe.
James Clarke
Cootehill, Cavan / Bailieborough, Cavan
The death has occurred of James Clarke, Cootehill and Seeorum, Bailieborough, Co Cavan. James passed away peacefully on the 23rd August 2026, in the exceptional care of the staff of Beaumont Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, following a short illness. Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Bridget and his niece Patricia.
Beloved father of Louise (Francis), Nicolle, Arlene (Darren), Michéal (Mairead) and Darren (Podge). Proud grandfather of Maisie Rose, Archie, Elsie, Ned, Georgie, Edie, Pearl and Sionna. James will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by Rosemarie, his children, grandchildren, sisters Anna (Dick) and Teresa (Thomas), extended family, neighbours and friends.

Reposing at his son Micheal's residence (A82 C5P6 - shuttle bus service will operate from the main road) on Monday 24th August from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday evening 25th August at Clarke's Funeral Home, Bailieborough from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Removal from his son's residence on Wednesday 26th August to St.Brigid's Church, Knockbride West arriving for Funeral Mass at 11.30a.m. followed by burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Donations in lieu, if desired, to Cavan/Monaghan Palliative Care Services via Cavan Monaghan Palliative Care Donation Link or c/o any family member or the Funeral Director.

Maisie O'Reilly
(née McMahon)
Knockateggart, Stradone, Cavan
The death has occurred of Maisie O'Reilly, Knockateggart, Stradone, Co. Cavan. Sunday, August 23rd, peacefully at Cavan General Hospital, in her 94th year, surrounded by her loving family in the care of the doctors and staff of Medical 2.
Predeceased by her husband John, parents James and Mary, sister Nancy, brothers Pearce and Packie Tom - recently deceased.
Deeply regretted by her loving daughter Geraldine (Martin) McHugh, Kill, brother Kevin (England), grandsons Niall (Louise) and Gary (Nicola), sister-in-law Marie, cousins, neighbours, relatives and friends.
Rest in Peace
Her remains will arrive at St. Michael’s Church, Clifferna, on Wednesday for prayers at 6pm, followed by an opportunity to sympathise with the family until 7.30pm. Removal from the home of her daughter on Thursday, travelling via Mountain Lodge, to arrive at St. Michael’s Church, Clifferna, for Funeral Mass at 11.30am. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. House private to family, neighbours and friends.
Sean (Foley) O'Rourke
30 Killymooney Drive, Cavan Town, Cavan
Sean (Foley) O'Rourke, 30 Killymooney Drive, Cavan Town, Monday August 24th 2026, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his heart broken family. Predeceased by his parents Foley and Dorothy, his son Noel, his brother Billy and his nephew Shane. Beloved husband and best friend of Eva and devoted father of Alan, Nicky, Joanna, Tracey, Jamie and Gemma. Sean will be sadly missed and forever loved by his wife and children, his adored grandchildren, brothers, Thomas, Joey and Tony, his sister Marie, sons in law, daughters in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, all his extended family, his good neighbours and his many friends.

Sean will repose at the McMahon Funeral Home, Farnham Road, Cavan (H12C821) on Tuesday evening from 5pm until 8pm. Removal from his home in Killymooney on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. and travelling to the Cathedral of S.s Patrick and Felim, Cavan, arriving for a Funeral Mass at 11.30. Following Mass, the cortege will travel to St. Patrick's Cemetery, Drumcor for committal prayers and burial. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu to the Cavan/Monaghan Palliative Care Fund or the Irish Cancer Society via their websites or donation box in the Funeral Home. Sean's Funeral Mass will be available to view live on the parish website at www.cavantownparish.com/webcam
