MEET THE FINALISTS: BEST GREEN BUSINESS
A Cavan man who saw first-hand in Australia how solar power was changing the way homes and businesses used energy, is now playing his part in making the green transition a reality at home in Cavan.
Having worked in the renewable energy sector in Perth for 15 years, Raymond Reilly returned home to found his own electrical firm.
“I set up RER Electrical with one van and a whole lot of ambition.
“As the demand for renewable energy continues to grow, so have we,” enthuses Raymond. In May 2023 the company evolved to become RER Electrical & Solar Ltd and just a few months ago, they set up RER Energy, which is dedicated to solar, heat pumps and home retrofits. Raymond’s brother Declan will lead this limb of the business. Raymond is particularly delighted to have apprentices amongst their 13-strong team.
“We believe the green transition will only succeed if we invest in, and develop, skilled people who can build their careers with us, contribute to the local economy and play a leading role in delivering the transition to a greener future.”
Raymond is most proud of his team’s work.
“To date, we have completed more than 200 solar installations across the region, helping homes, farms and businesses generate their own clean electricity.”
These installations, combined, produce approximately 1.4 million units of electricity every year.
“That means around 400 tonnes of CO2 emissions avoided annually, while also keeping more than €300,000 a year in our customers’ pockets rather than being spent on energy bills,” said Raymond.
Looking to the future, RER is moving into heat pumps, battery storage and complete home retrofits.
“For us, it is about more than installing solar panels. It is about helping our customers take control of their energy, reducing emissions, and making a tangible contribution to a cleaner, more sustainable future for our community,” said Raymond.
