Celebrating creativity and connection

A recent art exhibition at the Johnston Cavan Central Library celebrated Ukrainian creativity and cultural connections between Ireland and Ukraine.

Titled Reflections: Discovering History Through Art, the exhibition featured paintings by Ukrainian professional artist Liudmyla Vechirko and artwork created by her students in Cavan and Belturbet.

The official opening was a celebration of the artistic talents of the Ukrainian community and its contribution to cultural life in Cavan.

Vechirko led the Cavan art group, while artist and volunteer Irena Yesakova supported the Belturbet participants. Exhibition organiser Olga Dowd of CCLD also played an important role in bringing the event together.

Chairperson of the Association of Ukrainians in Ireland, Sergiy Balan, highlighted the growing cultural ties between the two countries.
