Gardaí thank public for assistance following search

Body recovered, Meath River Rescue confirm.

Gardaí have thanked the public for their assistance during the search for a man reported missing from his home in Oldcastle last Friday.

The search was called of on Saturday evening after a body was discovered.

It follows an extensive search that took in parts of the Mountnugent area.

Mark Smith (44) was last seen shortly before 9am Friday morning, May 2.

In a statement posted on social media, Jamie Rennicks of Meath River Rescue confirmed that members of the group had recovered a body.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends. May Mark Rest In Peace."
