Man (40s) arrested after Garda struck by van in Co Louth

A man has been arrested in connection with an incident in which a van was driven at a Garda in Ardee, Co Louth.

The incident happened on Friday, when an officer had been investigating a van which was parked up in the Clonmore Estate in Ardee shortly after 4am, when it was driven at him.

The Garda sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

On Monday, a man in his 40s was arrested in connection to the investigation.

He is currently detained at a Garda station in the Eastern region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Clonmore Estate area between 4:00 am and 4:40 am on the 2nd May 2025 are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
