Tourism authority meet in Farnham Estate today
A five-year plan for this part of the Hidden Heartlands was discussed
A five-year tourism plan for Cavan and the border-midlands region has been unveiled at a meeting in the Farnham Estate, in Cavan today.
Chairperson of Fáite Ireland, Ruth Andrews, together with the senior management team and the entire Authority (Board) of Fáilte Ireland - the National Tourism Development Authority - gathered in Cavan for the organisation’s quarterly Authority meeting.
The strategy identifies a range of key initiatives designed to raise awareness of the “Hidden Heartlands” which takes in counties Cavan, Leitrim and Roscommon.
The overall aim is to raise awareness of this area as a holiday destination, increase the length of time tourists stay in this area and expand the range of things to do.
Another tenet of the plan is to strengthen the value of tourism to local communities while protecting the quality, character and distinctiveness of the local environment, heritage and culture.
Key stakeholders like the county councils and County Local Development Companies of Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo were consulted about the plan. Waterways Ireland were also involved in the process.
In January, Fáilte Ireland launched the new tourism development plan for the Upper Shannon, Shannon-Erne and Border.
